“Divorce can be a trying, draining, and emotionally devastating experience for all involved,” Spencer, 27, told People. “Despite these hardships, most individuals manage to conduct themselves with dignity and maturity. I did not – I failed spectacularly.”

“I horribly embarrassed the one person that meant the world to me. For my outrageous and infantile behavior, I offer Heidi my most sincere apologies,” Spencer continued.

“Over the years, her love, support, and friendship were always given, but never properly cherished. I let her down. She never deserved the pain and anguish I put her through, and although I don’t expect it, I hope in time she’ll be able to forgive me.”

“Even though our relationship has changed, I will always count her among my best friends,” Spencer concluded.

Halle Berry has been spotted kissing her Dark Tide costar Olivier Martinez in his hometown of Paris.

The two have been seen cozying up to each other and exploring the city. They spent Sunday afternoon combing through the streets arm in arm, taking in a pit stop at the Paris flea market.

“They had their arms around each other as they walked,” an onlooker tells PEOPLE. “They were both smiling and laughing. Their body language was very flirtatious. They definitely seemed like a couple – absolutely looked like more than friends.”

The two sped off on Martinez’s motorcycle before dining at the intimate Casa Bini restaurant. After dinner, Martinez led Berry on a cozy back-streets tour of the St. Germain district at dusk, including Place Saint-Sulpice and its fountain. En route to his Paris pad, the couple stopped along a narrow street and kissed in a doorway.

She may be rich, famous and beautiful but Angelina Jolie is lacking one major thing in life–friends. In a satellite interview with CNN’s Sanjay Gupta on Wednesday, Jolie revealed that when it comes to people she talks to, she really just chats with her husband, Brad Pitt, UsMagazine.com reports.

When Gupta asked how Jolie coped when she was traveling for her duties as UN’s Goodwill Ambassador, the actress said she mostly relied on her husband.

“I’ll talk to my family. I talk to Brad; he wants to know as much as he can about these issues and every trip. He’s been here as well; he came with me after the earthquake. But I don’t know, I don’t have a lot of friends I talk to. He is really the only person I talk to,” the ‘Salt’ actress said.
Jolie is currently in Pakistan to visit with victims of a recent flood. And while she said she misses her children and family when she goes on her UN trips, her kids understand why she has to go.

“I tell my children why I’m going and I explain to them why I was packing flashlights and food. They help me pack some things,” she told Gupta. “My children are from a lot of these countries, so I want them to understand what’s happening in Africa, the boys to understand what’s happening if there’s something current in their countries, and for all of them to know about each other’s countries as well.”

From hermaphrodite rumors to gracing the cover of Japanese Vogue wearing only a bikini made entirely of meat (photos here), Lady Gaga is often at the center of a lot of weird news items. In one of the stranger stories involving the pop star, a woman is now claiming that Gaga is possessed by the soul of her late daughter, who was also a musician.

Yana Morgana is seeking the rights to release dozens of songs her daughter, Lina, recorded with Gaga before committing suicide at the age of 19 in 2008. Mourning has been especially difficult for Morgana, as Gaga is a constant reminder of her daughter, who is said to have inspired the artist’s penchant for wigs, thigh-high boots and a dark, tortured persona.

“Every other word she says is from Lina,” Morgana tells the New York Post. “She talks about having a dark and tragic life, but she had everything she wanted in the world.” Gaga and Lina worked together with producer Rob Fusari, who is largely responsible for Gaga’s early career.

The most bewildering aspect of the alleged persona stealing is that Gaga landed on the mainstream music scene just one month after Lina’s death. “It was the same style, the same look, the same music, the same voice, the same jaw line — the way they expressed themselves,” Lina’s ex-boyfriend, Tyler Schwab, tells the Post about seeing the ‘Just Dance’ video for the first time. “And I was like, ‘Is that Lina?’ It was so, so shocking. It was like looking at a ghost.”

And this isn’t just a case of gold-digging, either. Morgana has asserted she has no plans to take this to court, but merely wants the music released and, in turn, for Gaga to let go of Lina’s soul.

Below, ‘Wunderland,’ a song Gaga wrote for Lina sometime between 2006 and 2007.

Keenan Cahill, an acting and singing enthusiast who looks much younger than his 15 years, just hit the internet version of the bigtime with his lipsync of Katy Perry‘s “Teenage Dream.” He’s been on several blogs, received big ups from Perez Hilton (who called him “Lil Katy Perry Lover”) and even scored a tweet from Ms. Perry herself.

Keenan’s emotive Katy Perry performance isn’t his first taste of YouTube fame. Urlesque spotted him before he was big, but he first got noticed last year for his cover of a Jonas Brothers song. That led to a radio interview on the Stylz and Roman show in his hometown of Chicago, where he talked about how much he loves singing and lipsyncing, and revealed his aspirations of becoming an actor.

That was back when his whole channel had only scored 600,000 views, though. This new Katy Perry video has picked up 3 million in the space of a week. Now there’s every indication that Keenan is poised to become a huge YouTube star or score a reality show … seriously, someone get this kid on America’s Got Talent!

After Carolee Hazard paid a stranger’s grocery tab, she was rewarded with $93. Hazard decided to donate the money and in turn started a movement that has raised more than $100,000 for a California food bank.

Jenni Ware was having one of those days, about a year ago. Standing at the Trader Joe’s checkout with a full cart of groceries, she fumbled for a wallet that wouldn’t appear. Hazard sympathized from her spot in line, behind Ware.

“She was heading out of town for 10 days,” Hazard told AOL News. “The last thing you need is, where’s your wallet?”

Many people at the California grocery likely felt sorry for Ware, but Hazard acted on her empathy, paying for Ware’s $207 haul.

“It was a knee-jerk reaction. I said, ‘Hey if I pay for your groceries will you send me a check?’” Ware paid her back the next day, topping off the money owed with a $93 bonus, a generous reward for Hazard’s trust.

Hazard might have used the money for a massage, as Ware suggested, or simply returned the money, as she initially planned, but Facebook changed the fate of the $93 and eventually generated $100,000 for Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.

A retired biochemist, Hazard stays at home to care for her two daughters, 8 and 10. She posted to Facebook after paying Ware’s check and posted again when Ware sent her $93.

“I know what I’m going to do with the money. What would you guys do with it?”

Her friends told her to donate the money. She agreed, adding her own $93 to double the amount. But where should she donate? One Facebook friend suggested Second Harvest, a food pantry, since the original exchange happened at a grocery store. Viral Facebook magic ensued.

“A friend of mine said, ‘I think this is awesome and I want to throw in $93 as well,’” Hazard said. “And then another friend did and another one … within four hours we had $600. By the next morning it was almost $1,000.”

Hazard told Ware, who told her Facebook friends, and the money kept flowing into Second Harvest. A little more than a year after the effort began, the 93 Dollar Club has raised $100,000 without making a single request.

Second Harvest can turn $1 into two healthy meals. The 93 Dollar Club’s $100,000 translates to roughly 200,000 meals.

While Hazard’s “pie in the sky … wonderful cherry on top” dream would be an individual or corporation matching the money raised, she’s amazed by the generosity of those who already have given: A gentleman who grew up poor donated $9,300 in honor of his recently deceased mother. Despite tough circumstances, she always found enough food to feed a hungry kid from the neighborhood.

A local dentist, the son of migrant workers who was often hungry when young, gave $4,500 in matching funds. A friend’s 8-year-old daughter donated 93 cents from her allowance.

A single mom’s gift most inspired Hazard.

“A woman … sent a message saying, ‘Hey, I’m a single mom. I’m working 20 hours a week. I’m in grad school, but can I donate $9.30?’ At the end of each month, she has between $20 and $25 wiggle room, and she was wanting to donate $9.30,” Hazard recalled.

“What I did was nice. What she did was amazing.”

Back-to-school season is upon us, and even the best students need a little motivation to trade the beach, summer camp and carefree days for the classroom. But what if you could turn a school project into a $30 million business? That’s exactly what Lindsay Phillips, the creator of SwitchFlops, did.

Now 25, Phillips came up with the idea for SwitchFlops at 16, as part of a high school art project. Today, her company — Lindsay Phillips — employs 35 full-time staffers and is projected to bring in $30 million in revenue this year.

The idea is simple — SwitchFlops are sandals with interchangeable straps. So instead of buying several pairs of sandals, customers can instead own one sandal with multiple straps. In the wake of the Great Recession, a 3-in-1 shoe (or, heck, 50-in-1) is tailor-made for shoppers on a budget.

The basic sandal itself costs $35, and additional straps are $12. Officially launched in 2007, SwitchFlops are now sold in more than 4,000 stores around the world, and Phillips’ line has evolved into other footwear like ballet flats, wedges and espadrilles. The company also makes shopping bags, scarves and sandals for children. Lindsay Phillips, the company, is currently building an overseas office.

It didn’t hurt that Phillips, at the ripe-old age of 23, had the wisdom to know what she didn’t know — and brought aboard a CEO, Jeffrey Davidson, 50, who has a lot of experience in growing companies.

Which isn’t to take away anything from Phillips, who had the initiative and vision at age 16 to craft her art into something with commercial potential. She made some flip-flops — ceramic flip-flops that had straps with “fun, funky buttons” on them. “It made sense when I came up with this idea,” says Phillips, who grew up in Tampa, Fla. “Everyone wore flip-flops to school, all the time.”

Her parents proudly displayed the colorful sandals in their house. And guests noticed. One woman even tried to put them on. “They’re ceramic,” Phillips told her, but the teenager suddenly had the idea that she should make some actual flip-flops.

“I bought some fun buttons and tried to put them on some sandals, but they kept falling off when I’d go to the beach, so I came up with Velcro, and started lining it to the shoes,” says Phillips, who gave out her prototype sandal straps to family members and friends.

It was just a hobby at first, until a relative said, “This is really an amazing idea. You need to patent this.”

“I’m 16,” Phillips replied. “I really don’t know what a patent is. Can you help me?”

She wound up going to a sympathetic but skeptical patent attorney, who told her to do some research and make sure there wasn’t anything similar already on the market. If she couldn’t find anything, he said he would work with her. She did her research, turned up nothing, and to the attorney’s astonishment, he couldn’t find anything either. They began the process of applying for a patent. It took four years.

Phillips finished high school and started college in the meantime. She majored in art history at Rollins College and minored in communications, instead of focusing on business. “My parents told me to study what I enjoy because I’d probably do business for the rest of my life,” she says.

But her innovation was always top of mind. Phillips worked summers at Polo Ralph Lauren’s leather goods division in New York, honing her merchandising and manufacturing skills, and traveled to Europe in a Semester at Sea program — until she was ready to unleash her creation to the world.

The patent was granted in 2004, and after that, Phillips partnered with her mom, Liz, and began looking for a manufacturer. SwitchFlops made their first real retail appearance in January 2007 at the Surf Expo Trade Show in Orlando.

“We started with 10 straps,” Phillips says. “Basic colors, but we wanted to start off with the basics, and it’s been very successful. We find our typical customer owns three pairs of shoes and 10 straps, and for them to be able to go and customize them — well, they get very excited and really enjoy doing it. We really think it’s all about versatility and value.”

Phillips has managed to tap into the growing customization zeitgeist. While people have always wanted to stand out from the crowd, technology has really allowed consumers to tailor products to their own tastes in recent years — and businesses are increasingly offering an interactive, design-your-own experience.

As marketing guru Randy Gage, author of Why You’re Dumb, Sick & Broke… and how to get Smart, Healthy & Rich, notes, “I was always told, ‘Find a need and fill it,’ but that’s actually bad advice because people don’t usually do what they need, but what they want. Better advice is, ‘Find a want and fill it.’”

Phillips, of course, has managed to do just that. “SwitchFlops allow you to express yourself,” she says. “Everyone wants to be a little unique, and while we might have the same bag, we don’t want it to be exactly the same.”

Phillips recalls meeting one of her customers who had eight pairs of her shoes and 30 straps, and seeing women staring at her displays like kids in a candy store, as they selected straps and matched them up with shoes. “It’s amazing to be in the store and watch it happen because everyone picks out something different,” she says.

And being different, of course, is the whole idea.

Nothing quite spoils a $35 plate of lobster risotto like the specter of revolution.

A kind of proletariat fever appears to be sweeping through some of New York’s finest restaurants. Forget picket lines, though. These workers are dragging their celebrity-chef bosses to court.

As the Wall Street Journal reports, famed Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is the latest in a string of prominent restaurateurs to face lawsuits alleging violations of state and federal labor laws. A former employee of his New York City restaurant, Morimoto, is filing suit for depriving him of tip money. A similar suit was also filed this week against chef Chris Cannon and his business partner, Michael White, purveyors of such choice cuisine as salt-cod rigatoni and swordfish-belly confit at their three-star eateries Alto, Convivio and Marea.

This comes a month after the city’s seemingly most indefatigable gastronome, Mario Batali, was slapped with a federal suit by two employees who claim they were cheated out of their tips while working at Batali’s flagship restaurant, Babbo. That suit has morphed into a class-action affair, with nearly 20 more angry ex-employees piling on.

Although the allegations vary, the suits generally seek unpaid wages and tips, often claiming that workers did not receive sufficient overtime pay and that their tips were improperly distributed.

“Small-, medium-, and large-sized operators have the best of intentions to comply with all the labor laws, but they are fearful that a small mistake related to a complex labor law could potentially result in a suit,” one industry insider told the Wall Street Journal.

But others aren’t so charitable.

As Cynthia Estlund, a professor at the New York University School of Law, put it: “I think there are a lot of practices in the restaurant industry that were going on for a long time that were ripe for litigation.”

We’re not sure exactly how high you have to be to text the local sheriff to score some weed, but we figure it’s somewhere in the range of “really” to “inspiringly.” Where this Helena, Montana teenager lands on the scale doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that the boy and his friend managed to confuse their dealer’s phone number with that of the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff. Sheriff Leo Dutton initially thought the text message he received (“Hey Dawg, do you have a $20 I can buy right now?”) was a prank. But, after asking the teens to clarify how much is in a $20 bag of pot (which should have set off some alarms), the sheriff got these anonymous texters to agree to meet him in person and make the transaction. When the teen and his friend arrived at the meeting place — with a parent in tow no less (for some reason that we can’t quite figure out) — he was greeted by a detective from the Missouri River Drug Task Force. No citations were issued because, in the words of Dutton, the father “was a big, military-looking guy and he wasn’t happy.”

One of the basic lessons when engaging in illegal activity is to take extra care when communicating nefarious plans across high tech devices. Apparently these teens haven’t learned from the mistakes of others, but then, they rarely do.
