Mariah Carey Vs. Whitney Houston which one is the top voice of all time?

Versus Whitney

Mariah Carey possesses a five-octave vocal range, and was ranked first in a 2003 MTV and Blender magazine countdown of the 22 Greatest Voices in Music, as voted by fans and readers in an online poll. Carey said of the poll, “What it really means is voice of the MTV generation. Of course, it’s an enormous compliment, but I don’t feel that way about myself.”She also placed second in Cove magazine’s list of “The 100 Outstanding Pop Vocalists”. Regarding her voice, Carey states,

“I have nodules on my vocal cords. My mother says I’ve had them since I was a kid. That’s why I have the high register and the belting register and I can still be husky. The only thing that really affects my voice is sleep. Sometimes if I’m exhausted I can’t hit the really high notes.”[191] “My doctors showed me my vocal chords and why I can hit those high notes. It’s a certain part of the chord that not many people use—the very top. My natural voice is low. I have a raspy voice. I’m really more of an alto. But my airy voice can be high if I’m rested. [...] When I was little, I’d talk in this really high whisper, and my mom would be like, “You’re being ridiculous.” I thought if I can talk like that I can sing like that. So I started [she goes higher and higher and higher] just messing around with it. I’d practice and practice, and she’d be like, “You’re gonna hurt yourself.” I’d tell her, It doesn’t hurt/ If I were to try and belt two octaves lower than that, that would be a strain.”Mariah Carey

Houston’s vocal stylings have had a significant impact on the music industry. She has been called the “Queen of Pop” for her influence during the 1990s, rivaling Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.[174] She is commonly referred to as “The Voice”, in reference to her exception vocal talent. According to The New York Times, Houston has “revitalized the tradition of strong gospel-oriented pop-soul singing”. Ann Powers of the Los Angeles Times referred to the singer as a “national treasure”. She is what many consider to be a “singer’s singer” who has influenced countless other vocalists, both female and male. A number of artists have acknowledged Houston as an influence. Mariah Carey, who was often compared to Houston, said, “Houston has been a big influence on me.” She later told USA Today that “none of us would sound the same if Aretha Franklin hadn’t ever put out a record, or Whitney Houston hadn’t”.Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson cites Houston as her biggest musical influence. She told Newsday that she learned from Houston the “difference between being able to sing and knowing how to sing”. Leona Lewis, who also has been compared to Houston, cites her as an influence. Lewis has stated that she idolized Houston as a little girl.[180] BeyoncĂ© Knowles told the Globe and Mail that Houston “inspired [her] to get up there and do what [she] did.”[181] Celine Dion,[182] Christina Aguilera,[183] Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears,[184] Alicia Keys, Ciara, P!nk, Robin Thicke, Jennifer Hudson and Destiny’s Child have all cited Houston as a musical inspiration. In 2009, Rolling Stone listed Houston as one of the 100 greatest singers of the rock era.

In conclusion Mariah has strongly held on to top singles and consistent record sales.  Mariah has put out a total of 12 albums so far. Whitney houston has put out a total of 9 records. She has had a great success however with drug rumors may damaging her fanbase and taken her off track a bit. We are not here to judge that today. We are here to take two of the best voices and really decide who is the best vocally. We are not comparing any other singers but it is about time we came to a decision on who is the best. What is your opinion? Whitney or Mariah? If you are having difficulty picking. Ask yourself if you had to chose who to live with out for the rest of your life? If you only could chose one of them as an artist with the full collection who would it be? On a end note, I will leave you with the collaboration. :)

14yr old becomes hometown hero

Music has been important in Larry Wang’s life since preschool, when he started tapping away at the piano.

So when the 14-year-old Pleasant Hill teen heard the Mt. Diablo school district had cut the fourth-grade band program, he knew he had to try to save the music. Fourth grade is the level at which East Bay public school students traditionally get the first chance to learn instruments.

“Fourth grade and beyond really inspired me, and if you took that away that would be really tough,” Larry said.

In January, the teen approached his leadership teacher at Sequoia Middle School, Chris Cook, to see if he could start an after-school music program for fourth-graders at nearby Sequoia Elementary. Cook got the

backing from both schools’ principals, and before long the teen was recruiting mini-Mozarts, as well as a handful of other Sequoia eighth-graders to help teach them. Continue Reading »

Rihanna & eminem “Love the way you lie”

Though some fans may have been surprised to see Rihanna‘s name on the tracklist of Eminem‘s ‘Recovery’ — out today — expect to hear more collaborations from the two in the near future. When Em heard the beat that would ultimately become ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ his duet with the Barbados beauty, he immediately reached out, an honor Em has rarely bestowed on female artists in the past.

“He was like, ‘I definitely wanna get Rihanna on this,’” said the the song’s producer, Alex da Kid.

The respect is mutual, as Rihanna explained in a recent interview with E! “They reached out to us directly and they just said, ‘We have this song and we just think Rihanna would be perfect to sing it,” Rihanna said. “Of course, I was like, ‘OK, if I love it, I’ll definitely do it, because I love Eminem.’ And I love the song … It’s really beautiful, and it really stands out.”

Rihanna also announced that she hopes to perform the song with Em at one of his shows with Jay-Z this September. “I would love to,” she said. “That’s a huge stage to be a part of.”

The ‘Umbrella’ singer previously surprised Eminem fans when she performed with him last week at Activisions’s E3 concert. Check out “Love the Way You Lie” here.
